Mechanical Drive Controls
Our Mechanical Drive Steam Turbine Controls are designed for single-valve or extraction/induction steam turbines powering pumps, fans and compressors. Mechanical drive controls are primarily used for controlling the steam flow through a turbine in response to a process variable such as flow, pressure or temperature. Each control system is custom designed according to the user’s specifications.
  • Intuitive operator controls with large project-specific touchscreen operator interface custom designed for the application
  • Startup and shutdown sequencing controls
  • Turbine speed control
  • Process control including turbine inlet or exhaust steam pressure, process discharge or suction pressure or process temperature or process flow
  • Control of multiple inlet valves
  • PLC (Siemens or Allen-Bradley) based for maximum flexibility or standard Woodward governor
  • Overspeed protection using Woodward or other industry standard devices
  • Ethernet communications including Modbus TCP, OPC, ControlLogix and Profinet plus hardwired signals for integration with plant control systems
  • Full drawing sets according to final user specifications
  • World-wide field service for training, commissioning and service

Options

Each steam turbine control system is designed to meet the customer specifications with whatever special provisions are needed. Typical options include:

  • Hazardous area classification
  • Weather-proof stainless-steel enclosures
  • Redundant components including power supplies, CPU, I/O and communications for high-reliability applications
  • Bearing vibration and temperature monitoring for turbine driven equipment using the PLC or a Bently-Nevada monitor
  • Alarm and SOE time synchronization from SNPT or IRIG-B signals
  • Agency compliance including UL with cULus mark, IEC and ABS
